US-China Common Concern Committee · UC4

Turning strategic stability into practical cooperation.

Washington and Beijing have named health, agriculture, artificial intelligence, and people-to-people exchange as areas for cooperation. UC4 connects the universities, research centers, nonprofits, and local institutions in both countries that can carry that cooperation out.

Why Now

How We Work

Partnerships organized around problems, not places

UC4 pairs counterpart institutions in the United States and China that are working on the same problem, whether a hospital in Houston and one in Chengdu or an agricultural lab in Iowa and one in Shandong.

  1. 1

    Identify

Choose a concern where both countries face the same problem and progress helps both.

  2. 2

    Pair

Match institutions with comparable missions and expertise on each side.

  3. 3

    Convene

Hold focused working sessions between experts, online and in person.

  4. 4

    Report

Publish practical outcomes: shared methods, joint recommendations, and lessons learned.

People-to-people, expert-to-expert

Durable cooperation begins with professionals who know and trust one another. Sharing expertise and best practices builds a foundation that holds up when relations between governments are strained.

This is mutual benefit in practice: each side gains knowledge it could not easily develop alone.
